This is what it looks like to ride Maxx Force in Six Flags Great America. Submitted by Six Flags Great America
Here’s what you need to know about Maxx Force, Six Flag Great America’s newest roller coaster.
It’s a launch roller coaster, which means that instead of picking up speed by going down a giant drop, you pick up speed by being launched. You get to 78 mph in under two seconds, in fact.
You go upside down five times.
One of those times you go upside down? It’s the fastest inversion of any roller coaster in the world.
Another time you go upside down? That’s the tallest double inversion in the world.
Here’s what you need to know about me.
I love roller coasters.
For my honeymoon, my husband and I didn’t go to Hawaii. Or Europe. Or even up north. We went to Ohio. Because Cedar Point, one of the biggest roller coaster parks in the world, is there.
My favorite launch roller coaster is Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Disney World. That’s because I love Disney World. But, I got my start riding roller coasters with my dad at Great America.
Here’s what you need to know about my experience on Maxx Force.
It was amazing. John Krajnak, Great America’s director of marketing, was my personal guide for the ride. He explained the coaster to me as we were strapping ourselves in (There’s no shoulder harness, by the way. Just on your lap.).
“When I found out we were building this roller coaster, I prepared myself by going on Vertical Velocity,” Krajnak said. That ride launches you from 0 to 70 miles per hour in four seconds.
“Maxx Force is twice that fast,” Krajnak said. “I went on Vertical Velocity and tried to imagine a launch that was twice as fast.”
I asked him if he was able to imagine it. “Nope, you can’t imagine it,” he answered. “This is it.”
It was indeed it. And it was indeed unimaginable. The ride launched us forward, and it was just so fast. That launch gets you fast enough to go on the world’s tallest double inversion, and then that picks up enough speed to get you on the world’s fastest inversion.
And then you’re done. Not only are the elements of the ride fast, the ride itself goes by very quickly. That’s OK though, because the smoothness and the speed of the ride definitely make it worthwhile.
Maxx Force is a triple record-breaking ride (fastest launch in North America, fastest inversion in the world and tallest double inversion in the world), according to Six Flags. After riding with me, Krajnak said he had just achieved his own record — he rode Maxx Force three times in a row for the first time. I asked him how he felt and he said he was good. “Hey, maybe you’ll come back and beat my record,” Krajnak said.
Maybe I will.
